Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
